As the first city in Holland to receive city rights in 1220, Dordrecht has a long and renowned history. This heritage is still visible in numerous large and small monuments, including the Grote Kerk, the City Hall, the Groothoofdspoort, the windmill Kyck over den Dyck, and the charming courtyards. Culture is everywhere. Be sure to visit one (or more) of the 12 museums, such as the Huis van Gijn, the Hof van Nederland, and of course the Dordrechts Museum. Or quickly escape through the city’s “back door” to a peaceful oasis at Nationaal Park De Biesbosch.
Our adventurous tip for Dordrecht: climb the tower! A very special experience, as the tower of the Grote Kerk leans even more than the world-famous Tower of Pisa in Italy. Climb the 275 steps to the top and enjoy a stunning view over the city. On a clear day, you can even see Rotterdam in the distance.
